International Forum on Urban and Building Environments was successfully held in Chongqing

International Forum on Urban and Building Environments was successfully held in Chongqing from September 4 to September 5.

The forum was co-chaired by Professor Baizhan Li, the Director of National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon & Green Buildings (MOST), Professor Runming Yao, the Director of Joint International Research Lab of Green Buildings & Built Environments and Professor Doug King, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Experts and scholars from relevant fields at home and abroad were invited to carry out in-depth exchanges on research and education achievements in urban and built environment and architecture.

Professor Hui Xie, the Deputy Dean of the Institute of Scientific Research and Development and Professor Qingshan Yang, the Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University congratulated the forum and extended a warm welcome to the experts from home and abroad. Professor Larry Bellamy from University of Canterbury, Professor Sasan Sadrizadeh from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Professor Ali Cheshmehzangi from The University of Queensland, Associate Professor Emmanuel Essah from University of Reading, Dr. Christos Halios from University of Reading, Dr. Mochamad Donny Koerniawan from The Bandung Institute of Technology, and Dr. Zamageda Zungu from University of the Witwatersrand and professors in relevant fields from Chongqing University attended the forum. Professor Jian Kang, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, from University College London, Professor Alan Short from University of Cambridge, Professor Christopher Pain from Imperial College London, Professor Ferenc Kalmár from University of Debrecen, Associate Professor James O'Donnell from University College Dublin and Associate Professor Vincenzo Costanzo from University of Catania attend the forum online. More than 20 experts were invited to attend the forum and make academic reports.

Professor Runming Yao delivered a speech on behalf of Professor Alan Short, the Co-director of SuDBE Centre. He regretted not being able to attend the forum in person and said that the University of Cambridge attached great importance to the improvement of global air quality. He recalled the severe smog in London and noted that despite improvements in air quality, people's concern about breathing the air was increasing and led to the establishment of the SAGE Ventilation Group in the UK. Finally, he expressed full expectation for the smooth convening of the forum.

Professor Runming Yao introduced the long history of Chongqing University with significant advantages in the fields of energy, manufacturing, engineering and other disciplines. She pointed out that the university has actively promoted international development, and has established cooperative relations with more than 300 universities and research institutions in 40 countries and regions, and has nearly 20 international cooperation platforms. Then she introduced the basic situation and development process of SuDBE Centre. Finally, she introduced the ongoing national projects carried out by SuDBE team.


Professor Baizhan Li and Professor Runming Yao chaired the academic discussion. Nearly 20 experts shared their research results in the field of low-carbon cities and buildings in depth, and discussed the development direction and adaptive technology strategies and program mechanisms of cities and buildings to cope with climate change and improve thermal resilience in multiple dimensions and aspects. Finally, experts from home and abroad had roundtable discussions on education and science and technology cooperation, personnel exchanges, and student joint cultivation.

This forum was hosted by Chongqing University and organized by National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon & Green Buildings, Joint International Research Lab of Green Buildings & Built Environments and the School of Civil Engineering.
