From January 8th to 9th, 2024, the International Forum on “Urban Built Environment and Thermal Resilience under Low-Carbon Transition Mode” was successfully held in Chongqing. The Forum brought together experts and scholars from China and the United Kingdom to engage in in-depth discussions on research findings in the fields of low-carbon urban and building development. Participants explored various dimensions to address climate change challenges and deliberated on the development directions, adaptive technological strategies, program mechanisms, and policies to enhance thermal resilience. The forum was presided over by Professor Li Baizhan and Professor Yao Runming of the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University.

Distinguished guests at the opening ceremony included Chen Qizhen, Deputy Director of the Administrative Centre for China’s Agenda 21; Daniel Brooker, Director of China of the UK Research and Innovation; Sam Tindall, Consul of Political and Economic Affairs at the British Consulate-General in Chongqing; Xie Hui, Deputy Director of the Institute of Scientific Research and Development at Chongqing University; and Yang Qingshan, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University. The opening ceremony featured speeches from prominent figures expressing their perspectives on the importance of addressing climate change through collaborative efforts. Over 30 experts and scholars were invited to attend the forum, including Professor Lin Borong from Tsinghua University, Professor Kan Haidong from Fudan University, Professor Yuan Yanping from Southwest Jiaotong University, Professor Lyu Shilei from Tianjin University, Professor Xu Xinhua from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Meng Chong from the China Academy of Building Research, Professor Tim Broyd from University College London, Professor Christopher Pain and Senior Researcher Fangxin Fang from Imperial College London, Professor Prashant Kumar from University of Surrey, Manager Katherine Roberts from University of Cambridge, Professor Darren Woolf from Wirth Research, Director Anastasia Mylona from Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Associate Professor Eugene Mohareb from University of Reading, and other professors from relevant fields at Chongqing University.
The forum comprised thematic presentations and interactive workshops. Experts brainstormed on various scales of urban and building dimensions, exchanging ideas on urban planning, infrastructure, green materials, health and comfort, etc. The discussions aimed at exploring new pathways for green and sustainable development in the context of low-carbon urban and building transitions.
