Invited by Professor Hiroshi Yoshino, the member of the Engineering Academy of Japan and professor at Tohoku University, the Chongqing University delegation from SuDBE Centre visited Japan during the period from 5 to 12 April 2024. The delegation includes Professor Baizhan Li, the head of SuDBE Centre at Chongqing University, Professor Runming Yao, Professor Hong Liu and Associate Professor Chenqiu Du. They conducted academic exchanges, including the introduction of the research projects and visits to the laboratories at the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and Tohoku University, and also made technical visits to buildings such as Shinryo Innovation Hub, Waseda Arena, and ZEB.
During the visit to the three universities, deep discussions for future collaboration were on the agenda. Potential collaboration areas were identified, including the indoor environment, human physiological models, and the calculation of carbon emissions throughout the life cycle of buildings. Human-oriented environmental design and outdoor thermal climate and building simulation were also discussed. They also discussed carrying out student joint training, international exchanges, academic lectures, and course construction and expressed their willingness to establish a deep cooperative relationship.

During the visit, the delegates visited the Shinryo Innovation Center of Tokyo Shinko Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Co., Ltd. (an ASHRAE-certified Zero Energy Building), Waseda University's gymnasium, and the new office building of Shimizu Corporation's Tohoku branch (SHIMIZU). They learned about Japan's successful experiences in human-oriented architectural design, heating and air conditioning energy systems, natural ventilation design, solar energy utilization, operation management, and post-occupancy evaluation. This visit broadened and deepened the scope and depth of exchanges with Japanese universities and enterprises, laying a solid foundation for potential future in-depth cooperation.
This academic visit has further deepened the cooperation between the SuDBE Centre and renowned Japanese universities and enterprises. It has also allowed the partner universities and research teams to gain a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the Center, laying a solid foundation for further deepening scientific and technological cooperation, academic exchanges, and talent cultivation in the future.
