From January 11 to 12, 2025, the UK-China Workshop in Decarbonisation and Adaptation Policy for Buildings and Infrastructure co-hosted by Chongqing University and University College London, and co-organized by the School of Civil Engineering, National Centre for International Research of Green Buildings and Built Environments and Joint International Research Lab of Green Buildings & Built Environments. The Workshop was chaired by Professor Tim Broyd, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, University College London (Distinguished Professor of Chongqing University) and Professor Yao Runming, Director of the Joint Lab.

Anthony Preston, British Consul General in Chongqing, and Prof. Hui Xie, the Vice Dean of Institute of Scientific Research and Development addressed the opening ceremony. Professor Ni Jiangbo, President of China Association of Building Energy Efficiency; Professor Wang Qingqin, former Vice President of China Academy of Building Research, Professor Bai Li, Vice President of Jilin Jianzhu University; Xie Luole, Deputy Secretary-General of China Association of Building Energy Efficiency, Meng Chong, Professor of China Academy of Building Research, Yang Jin, President of T. Y. Lin International Engineering Consulting(China) Co., LTD Huang Ning, Deputy Director of China State Construction Technical Center, Professor Li Baizhan, Professor Liu Hong, Professor Ding Yong, Professor Yu Wei and Associate Professor Du Chenqiu from Chongqing University, Professor Doug King, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, David Hancock, Chartered Engineer, Professor Dejan Mumovic, Associate Professor Shen Wei from University College London, Professor Darren Woolf, Wirth Research, Anastasia Mylona, Technical Director, and Julie Godefroy, Net Zero at CIBSE, Lu Kong, Director of Climate and Environmental Affairs at the British Consulate General in Chongqing, and staff from Chongqing University were invited to attend the workshop.

The workshop was divided into two parts: keynote forum report and discussion. Experts from China and the UK introduced relevant standards and policies in promoting buildings and infrastructure in their respective countries, and shared the research work on decarbonization carried out. A roundtable discussion was held on the construction infrastructure of China and the UK in terms of building energy efficiency, building carbon reduction, low-carbon development policy system of urban infrastructure, and construction of green building standard system and in-depth comparison and discussion were made on the status quo and future development direction of decarbonization work of both sides in the field of building and infrastructure construction. The future direction of low-carbon research in buildings, renewable energy and urban construction between China and the UK was discussed, which effectively promoted the research on technology and policy in the development of decarbonization work between the two sides, promoted the construction of low-carbon buildings and infrastructure in China and the UK, and improved the climate adaptation ability of cities.
