On July 29, 2025, the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment (SuDBE2025) jointly organized by Chongqing University and the University of Cambridge, successfully concluded in Cambridge, UK. It was co-hosted by the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University, National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon & Green Buildings (MOST) and Joint International Research Lab of Green Buildings & Built Environments (MOE). In collaboration with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the conference established the "CIBSE-SuDBE Outstanding Student Award" for the first time. The judging panel for the Student Award consisted of Professor Tim Broyd, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Professor Doug King, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Professor Emmanuel Essah, Head of the School of the Built Environment, University of Reading, Dr. Fangxin Fang, Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London and Anastasia Mylona, Technical Director of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). Over 70 students from more than 10 renowned universities worldwide participated in the award competition.
After evaluation by forum chairs and assessment of conference posters, 14 students from seven universities were awarded, including Tsinghua University, Chongqing University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and University College London (UCL), UK. At the closing ceremony, Professor Emmanuel Essah and Anastasia Mylona, Technical Director of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), jointly announced the inaugural list of award recipients. Professor Baizhan Li (Conference Chair, Chongqing University) and Professor Ying Jin (University of Cambridge) were invited to present the first-ever CIBSE-SuDBE Outstanding Student Awards.
